M.A. HUMAN RIGHTS

VISION:

Develop awareness of how human rights can be translated into social and political reality to help empower students to realize their rights; Develop skills for protecting human rights. Students take responsibility for promoting and protecting human rights.

MISSION:

  • To promote and aware of human rights.
  • To engage in relationships that embodies the principles of dignity and respect.
  • To create a culture of human rights compliance and accountability.
  • To bring social change based on principles of substantive equality.
  • To pay equal attention to the realized of civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights, including the right to development.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

Student with Masters in Human Rights programme will
PEO1 Develop critical thinking to carry out investigation about various Human Rights issues objectively.
PEO2 Equip them for pursuing master degree with skills to analyse violation of human rights,  analyse, interpret the results and draw reasonable conclusions.
PEO3

Aiming towards perfection and maximum harmony with the environment is the ideal goal for human race. But realizing this objective is easier said than done, as there are many impediments in  implementing genetic principles to human beings.

 

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)

The Master of Arts Programme in Human Rights has been designed with the aim to develop an in-depth knowledge of students in the areas of human rights. So that they will be able to
PSO1 Human Rights also guarantee people the means necessary to satisfy their basic needs such as food, housing and education. By guaranteeing life, liberty, equality and security, human rights protect people against abuse by those who are more powerful.
PSO2 Historical events such as Magna Carta, The American Declaration of Independence, The French Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen had been contributed to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
PSO3 Indian Constitution ensures human rights by guaranteeing fundamental rights to every citizen of India.
PSO4 Human Rights movements have been enriched by collective wisdom emerging from the tribal movement, peasant struggles, environmental movement, women’s liberation movement, child rights movement, dalit movement and struggles of the differently abled persons.
PSO5 The Regulating Act of 1773 was enacted as a first step to regulate the working of East India Company. However, the Indian Independence Act, 1947 finally ended the British rule in India and declared India as an independent and sovereign nation with effect from August 15, 1947.
PSO6 Humanism introduces a program to revive the cultural and particularly the literary – legacy and moral philosophy of classical antiquity.
PSO7 The justice system’s major components – police, courts and corrections – prevent or deter crime by apprehending, trying and punishing offenders. Police departments are public agencies whose purposes are to maintain order, enforce the criminal law and provide services.
PSO8 To prevent human rights violations and to safeguard the fundamental rights of every citizens of India. To promote and advocate human rights and fundamental freedom for all without any discrimination of race, religion, caste, color, sex and language.
PSO9 The knowledge and respect of rights that students gain from this, combined with understanding, respect and tolerance for difference, can empower them to tackle prejudice, improve relationships and make the most of their lives.

The purpose of collective rights is to affirm the collective identity of groups in society and to create a society where people of different identities belong.
